Remember your childhood days? The hours spent whisked away by Disney's animated fairytales of magic and romace?
Guess what? I'm about to smash it into smithereens!
*cacklecackle!*
Apparently the wicked stepmother didn't fall off the cliff to her death. In the the German version collected by the Grimm Brothers, "as punishment for her wicked ways, a pair of heated iron shoes are brought forth with tongs and placed before the Queen, She is then forced to step into these and dance until she falls down dead." ( Wikipedia, 2009 )
Cool huh?
The Little Mermaid, by Hans Christian Andersen, is not all that happy after all.
No, she does NOT marry the prince and have a daughter like we were told in the Disney version.
The prince wasn't oh so romantic too.
He was a flirtatious pig who dumped the mermaid for some other woman.
She was supposed to stab him so she could return to the sea, but no...
She'd rather dissolve into foam.
No wonder kids now a days have such a romanticised outlook on life.
